Mass Market Monday- the first

I will warn you right now: this will not be a weekly feature, and most likely will be posted on Sundays (on those weeks I work the weekend). That said, I got the idea from a friend who works at B&N, who called it that because that is when the mass markets come in. I thought of a variety of posts that could fall under the subject of Mass Market Monday: a list of paperbacks coming out that week (or in the next month or so), highlight a paperback series focusing on the most recent title in that series, or current trends in content or style, such as steampunk.

With that in mind, this week's Mass Market Monday will focus on the series The Parasol Protectorate. The first books is called Soulless. The main character is a young woman in Victorian England named Alexia Tarabotti. The Victorian England in which she lives is different from the one we are used to: vampires and werewolves exist, and are evidently caused by an excess of soul; people travel about in derigibles; and Alexia was born without a soul. Being soulless does not seem to bother her much, but it does grant her immunity from the werewolves and vampires. Indeed around the soulless, the vampires and werewolves are temporarily stripped of their powers, and revert to human.

The second book is Changeless, in which something or someone has caused Lord Maccone's pack to revert to human.

The third book, due out 10/1 is Blameless. Alexia moves out of her husband's house and back in with her horrible family, and becomes the scandal of the season.
