Dead Man Running

Dead Man Running
By: Ross Coulhart and Duncan McNab

Their motto is “We are the people our parents warned us about.” They are one of the most notorious and salacious biker gangs in American and Australian history. They are the Bandidos, one of the infamous “One Percenter” outlaw motorcycle gangs that populate the international criminal underworld. Dealing in drugs and illegal weapons, among other, even less savory forms of income if such can be imagined, the Bandidos have carved a bloody and vicious foothold in the Australian criminal circuit. As related to the authors by a former member-turned-information, Stevan Utah of their Australian chapter, the book details the dealings and sordid history of the Bandidos motorcycle gang, one of the criminal element that has served to give Australian biker gangs a deservedly sanguine reputation. The authors tell the tale through correspondences and indirect dealings with Steve Utah, a man at one time responsible for club security and counterintelligence who tired of the criminal life and turned rat on his former gang brethren, knowing full well that doing so would turn him into a “Dead Man Running.” He condemned himself, he knew, to forever fleeing the inevitable and violent end that was sure to befall him if his former brothers ever caught him for revealing their shady dealings. Michael Duffy of the Sydney Morning Herald called it “…a good read, full of accounts of murder, mayhem and dirty dealing.” True to form, the book lives up to its reputation, and was an engaging peek into the world of the outlaw motorcycle gang, told from the perspective of a man, who even to this day, frightfully awaits his sudden end by the knife, the gun or the bomb wielded by a former friend.
