The end is near...various titles
The end is (on a book shelf) near (you.) Apocalypse has come to the literary world, and I couldn’t be happier! We have zombies and aliens and airborne diseases. We have human negligence, and weather anomalies. We have deities and denizens. Plotting the apocalypse we have Orson Scott Card (Ender’s Game), Lois Lowry (The Giver), Cormac McCarthy (The Road) and H. G. Wells (War of the Worlds.) Children’s authors have stepped into the game: Tony DiTerlizzi (The Search for WondLa) and Jeanne DuPrau (The City of Ember.) Zombies roam rampant with authors Carrie Ryan (The Forrest of Hands and Teeth), Robert Kirkman(The Walking Dead) and Jason (The Living and The Dead.) We have new dystopian societies being built up from the remains of our ruined civilization from authors Allie Condie (Matched), Scott Westerfeld (Uglies) and Suzanne Collins (The Hunger Games.) In short, we have a whole lot of awesome coming from a lot of different directions, and as it is a growing genre, I suspect there will be more to come. While we may be facing the end of days according to the Mayan calendar, I personally intend to read all the way to The End and I think you should do the same. Bring it on 2012. Bring. It. On.
