The Great Divorce

The Great Divorce
By: C.S. Lewis

Most people are familiar with C.S. Lewis's children's series The Chronicles of Narnia, however he wrote fables or allegories for adults as well. The Great Divorce is a tongue in cheek ghost story following a group of people on a bus ride from Hell to Heaven. Hell is described as place where people wait at the same dark dirty bus stop everyday in the pouring rain. As soon as the bus riders arrive in Heaven it's obvious that most of them cannot stay because they will not change, they expect Heaven to change for them. As one of ghosts notes the grass is hard on their feet and it will not bend. I recommend this book because C. S. Lewis successfully uses symbolism to prove a point about human nature and his writing style is so enjoyable wether he is writing for children or adults.
