Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
By: J.K. Rowling

“Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” is the first book in J.K. Rowling’s seven-book series. It introduces us to Harry Potter, a young boy living with his abusive Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon. Just before his eleventh birthday, Harry starts receiving letters from the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Though his aunt and uncle try desperately to keep the letters from him, he eventually reads one and learns that he is a wizard and has been accepted at Hogwarts for wizard training.

After this introduction into Harry’s life, the book chronicles his first year at Hogwarts. We get to see him befriend Ron and Hermione, learn how to ride a broomstick, concoct potions and cast spells, and use an invisibility cloak. We see Harry come face to face with Voldemort, the wizard who killed his parents, and we learned that Harry is alive due to his mother’s love. Though “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” was technically written for children and young adults, it is a book that I highly recommend for all.
