If you would like a good old-fashioned book to share with your children then check out The Penderwicks. It is about a family of four sisters and their widowed father who go on vacation to the Berkshire Mountains. The four girls interact with a young boy next door whose mother is a bit snobbish. The girls and boy have a rollicking summer and there’s even a hint of romance for the oldest sister and the young gardener. This book brought back memories of my childhood, when things seemed so much simpler. I highly recommend The Penderwicks. There is a sequel, The Penderwicks On Gardam Street, and a third book, The Penderwicks At Point Mouette, which will be released in May.
