The Politician

The Politician
By: Andrew Young

“An insider’s account of John Edwards’s pursuit of the presidency and the scandal that brought him down”

Have you ever worked with someone on a particular project that you both had a common interest in and then found out later that he/she betrayed your trust and damaged your reputation? Well that’s what happened to me. I worked on a presidential campaign and accompanied the candidate early in the campaign when he was asked by the media, if he had an affair with his campaign filmmaker. He repeatedly denied the accusations. One day he finally decided to “come clean” and admit his infidelities and acknowledge the birth of an illegitimate daughter.

All of this sparked my interest when I saw the cover of a book by Andrew Young, long time aide to John Edwards. Young tells an account of Edwards’ rise and fall as a presidential hopeful as it relates to his affair with Rielle Hunter. He explained how John and Rielle were able to meet each other on the campaign trail and how the author himself assisted in the scheduling of their various rendezvous down to the details of hotel arrivals and departures so that they would not be seen. Young went as far to book reservations under his name, causing suspicion from his wife.
Looking for some real life political drama, this may be the book for you.
