Turtle in Paradise
By: Jenni Holm
TURTLE IN PARADISE is a Depression-era tale about an eleven-year-old girl named Turtle. Turtle’s Mom is a housekeeper who keeps losing her jobs and getting her heart broken . When Turtle’s Mom gets a job with an old lady who doesn’t like children, she has no other choice but to send Turtle home to Key West to live with her sister, Minerva, and three boy cousins none of whom Turtle has ever met.
Her eleven-year-old cousin, Beans, runs the Diaper Gang, a group of boys who babysit for candy. The Gang has one rule. NO GIRLS ALLOWED! Turtle usually tags along anyway and eventually learns their secret cure for diaper rash. Along the way they have adventures, meet the colorful locals (including a very familiar mustached author) and find a long lost treasure map.
TURTLE IN PARADISE is a great historical fiction novel that readers of all ages will enjoy. It is written by Jenni Holm who also writes the Baby Mouse series.
