After her mother has an affair, her parents divorce and her mother marries a famous basketball coach McLean, the narrator of the book, decides to go with her father as he travels around the country working as a restaurant consultant. In each place that they go she reinvents herself and becomes a different person with a different name and when she leaves she sheds both the name and the personality. However, in Lakeview circumstances get away from her and McLean has to be herself. And by doing so she discovers who she is, makes new friends and comes to terms with who her parents are. And McLean finds out that sometimes the best place to be is where you are. There are also appearances by characters from the author’s previous books. This book is for anyone who has felt uncomfortable in their own skin and wished they could be someone else and go somewhere new.
